University Campus, Facilities, Labs and Courses
- Traditional Halls – built in the 1960s
- Sweetland Hall – A relatively new addition with around 250 beds.
- Foundation Apartments – Apartment style residence halls.
These are the prime residential halls where the students stay. A large part of the SMSU campus was constructed between 1965 and 1973 on the basis of a central plan. The buildings are interconnected through tunnels and covered walkways, creating a seamless and controlled environment in both summer and winter. However, the residence halls are not connected. Spaces between the buildings are adorned with courtyards and gardens. The residence halls were named by the students themselves in the 1960s and portray different themes and exhibit various values of the times, like the Aquarius, Casa Futura, Methedras and Kama Sutra halls . Armstrong Hall was named after astronaut Neil Armstrong. Manchester Hall was named for pop singer Melissa Manchester after a concert she performed on campus. In 2009 a new dorm was inaugurated named Sweetland Hall in honor of a late president, Douglas Sweetland.
