Edinburgh Napier University, situated in Edinburgh, Scotland, is a public research university. The university's forerunner, Napier Technical College, was established in 1964 and was named after Scottish mathematician and philosopher John Napier, who lived in the 16th century. In 1992, Lord Douglas-Hamilton officially established the technical college as Napier University. 

The three campuses that make up Edinburgh Napier University are Craiglockhart, Merchiston, and Sighthill. The three campuses house a number of exceptional facilities, including sports science labs, newsrooms, lecture theaters with 200 and 400 seats, lifelike hospital wards, biotech laboratories, clinical skills suites, [EN]GAGE sports centers, Jack Kilby Computing Centers, Bright Red Triangle business incubators, soundproofed industry-standard music studios, multimedia and language laboratories, and much more. 

The institution provides graduate research opportunities in addition to its 162 graduate programs and 153 undergraduate programs. The institution also offers graduate apprenticeships, PGDE programs, 41 online learning programs, short courses, and ten distant learning alternatives. In addition to engineering, acting, biosciences, law, veterinary nursing, accounting and finance, and teaching, there are programs available in 20 other fields of study.
