In Cambridge, England, the University of Cambridge is a public collegiate research institution. The University of Cambridge is the third-oldest university in existence and was founded in 1209. Following the arrival of scholars who had departed the University of Oxford for Cambridge following a conflict with neighborhood residents, the university was established. Although they are occasionally referred to as rivals, the two old English institutions have many things in common and are frequently referred to as Oxbridge together.
The University of Cambridge is made up of six schools, over 150 academic departments, faculties, and other institutions, as well as 31 semi-autonomous constituent colleges. All of the colleges within the university are autonomous organizations that control their own staff and operating procedures. All students are obliged to be affiliated with one of the colleges within the university. At Cambridge, lectures, seminars, laboratory work, and occasionally additional supervision from the core university faculties and departments are supplemented by weekly small-group supervisions in the colleges.
