Prometric USMLE

Prometric is a popular US-based company that conducts different Prometric tests worldwide. It operates test centers in more than 180 countries worldwide and is responsible for administering different recruitment and licensing tests.

The most common include the India-Common Entrance Test, the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), and Secondary School Admission Test.

What is Prometric Exam?

The Prometric exam, also known as Prometric testing, is a computer-based test conducted at registered Prometric exam sites in every country. This allows students to take different international exams at their preferred location.

This exam offers flexibility in scheduling and choosing the exam location, ease of access, and greater security.

The website of Prometric has a sample test that allows examinees to prepare for the test first-hand before appearing for the final exam at the site.

Prometric & USMLE

The USMLE is a screening test for students seeking a medical license in the United States. This computer-based test is conducted by the testing agency Prometric and is held across all Prometric test centers worldwide. The agency is responsible for allotting test centers to all applicants.

Once an applicant registers for the Step 1 and 2 CK tests, they can schedule the exam on the website of Prometric. Applicants can choose any Prometric center in their respective country for these two steps.

The third step is conducted only in the United States, and applicants who clear the first two steps will have to travel to the country for the test.

Prometric Scheduling Process

Scheduling an exam for a Prometric test is simple and straightforward. Applicants can complete the process on the website of the agency.

Once registered for USMLE through the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) or the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), applicants will receive a scheduling permit.

After this, the applicant must visit the Prometric website and schedule the exam. A few critical details are necessary for this step.

They are:

  • Name as mentioned on the identification
  • A valid government-issued identity proof
  • Social Security, Social Insurance, or Prometric Testing ID Number
  • Contact details, including phone number and e-mail address
  • Mailing address
  • Exam number and title
  • E-mail address

The information required depends on the exam the applicant is choosing. It is recommended to check the website before starting the scheduling process.

Prometric USMLE Appointment Scheduling Steps

Applicants who have completed the registration process of USMLE should schedule the test appointment at the earliest to get a test center in their preferred region.

Here are the steps to follow to schedule the appointment:

  • The first step is to visit the website of Prometric and go to the homepage.
  • Go to the 'test taker' option and select the test to register.
  • This will direct the applicant to the home page of the test. This page contains relevant information and steps on the left side.
  • Choose the 'schedule' option to proceed with the process.
  • In this step, there will be a bunch of instructions for the applicant regarding the process. Applicants must provide the scheduling number and the first four characters of their last name.
  • The following steps will ask for personal details and show the different test centers where USMLE is available.
  • Choose the test center and the available time slots.
  • Once the applicant completes these steps, they must pay the fee applicable to all students taking the test outside the United States and Canada.

Applicants should keep all the required documents and information handy to ensure a smooth scheduling process.

Appointment Cancellation & Rescheduling

If applicants cannot appear for the exam on the scheduled date, they can change it on the Prometric website.

Applicants can schedule and reschedule their exam on the Prometric website for free 31 days before the exam date. The testing agency will charge a fee in case of rescheduling, canceling, or changing the test center after the time period. Applicants need to mention the Prometric Confirmation Number for shifting the dates.

ECFMG and FSMB have different processes regarding the change of the exam center. Check the website for updated information before requesting a change. Applicants registered through ECFMG can also request for eligibility extension on the website.

It is recommended to cancel the exam if something important comes up and the applicant can't take the test.

Check the fees for rescheduling on the USMLE website. Also, before rescheduling the center, ensure the site is available.

Test Centre Sites

Prometric exams are conducted at the designated Prometric test center. In India, almost every state has one or multiple test centers.

Applicants can choose the test center for the exam they appear for. It might be that some sites allow only specific examinations. For instance, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) exam site may be different from USMLE.

The current list of test centers for the Prometric exam for USMLE is presented below. Please ensure that the centers you can choose will depend on the exam, and the list will be available on the website. Therefore, we encourage applicants to check the scheduling confirmation e-mail to get details of the Prometric test center.
