What is IMEI? The full form of IMEI is International Mobile Equipment Identity

Each and every mobile phone in the entire world has an IMEI number, which is a distinct 15-digit serial number used for device identification.

The Equipment Identity Register, or EIR, is a database that houses these IMEI numbers together with details on all authorized mobile phone equipment.

This is due to the fact that the EIR's responsibility is to verify, via the use of the IMEI number, that each phone call or SMS transmitted is coming from a phone that is allowed to connect to a mobile network.

Therefore, your phone already has a registration if it is in working order and is linked to a mobile network. IMEI is a crucial component.

The Importance of IMEI

  • Without needing to physically hold the phone, the IMEI number provides information about the make and model, release year, and other specs.
  • To make an insurance policy, your new phone provider or insurance company could want your IMEI number. It could be necessary for your new cell service to unlock the handset from your previous one.
  • IMEI numbers are significant primarily because they make it easier to locate and secure stolen or lost phones.
  • Should your phone be stolen, you may report the loss to your cell provider, provide them with the IMEI, and then they will disable the device.
  • Even if the thief inserts a fresh SIM card, the gadget becomes banned, and they are unable to use it. Furthermore, the company always checks the IMEI to determine whether the cell phone has been reported stolen if the criminal brings the device to a mobile recycler to swap it for cash.
  • The IMEI of a person may be used to trace their activities and locate missing people by understanding the phone calls made from their devices.
  • IMEI also tells if a device is original and valid since it contains warranty and carrier information.
