ITP Full Form- Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura

What is IDP? The full form of IDP is Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura. 

A blood condition known as immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is typified by a drop in the blood platelet count. Blood cells called platelets aid in halting bleeding. 

Reduced platelet counts might result in internal bleeding, bleeding gums, and easy bruising. An immune response directed against one's own platelets is the root cause of this illness. 

Another name for it is thrombocytopenic purpura autoimmune. A reduction in the quantity of platelets in the blood is known as thrombocytopenia. The term "purpura" describes a purple discoloration of the skin, similar to a bruise. 

ITP is a blood illness that can affect both adults and children, and it is rather prevalent.

Causes and Symptoms of IDP

The immune system is triggered in ITP to target your body's own platelets. This is most frequently the outcome of the development of antibodies against platelets. T-cells, a subset of white blood cells, have the rare ability to target platelets directly. There are several possible causes of this immune system malfunction, including:

• Over-the-counter and prescription drugs alike may trigger an allergy that interacts with platelets.
• Antibodies can react with platelets when they are infected, most commonly with viruses that cause AIDS, hepatitis C, and chicken pox.
• Being pregnant
• immune system diseases, including lupus and rheumatoid arthritis
• Abnormal antibodies against platelet proteins can be produced by leukemias and low-grade lymphomas.
• Immunothrombocytopenic purpura occasionally has an unknown cause.

The symptoms of ITP are associated with increased bleeding because platelets aid in halting bleeding. But each person may have a unique set of symptoms. Among the symptoms could be:

• The purpleness that results from blood "leaking" beneath the skin. Blood under the skin is a bruise. Large bruises that have no documented damage may be present in people with ITP. Just moving might cause bruises in the elbow and knee joints.
• Little bleeding spots beneath the skin, visible as little red dots.
