ETH Zurich (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich) is the embodiment of a rich and proud history that represents freedom, open-mindedness, and entrepreneurial spirit. Since its inception in 1855, the public research university has been a pinnacle in providing innovative solutions to the world. The educational institution has remained a vital driving force behind Swiss industrialization for over a century.

Placed among the serene landscape of Zurich city in Switzerland, the state-of-the-art university has always attracted foreign talents. As one of the top national educational facilities of international standard, it hosts a highly futuristic infrastructure. However, the ETH Zurich acceptance rate is not too high due to the strict ETH Zurich admissions requirements.

ETH Zurich has two main campuses, Honggerberg and Zentrum, along with a few others in different locations in Zurich. It is home to 24,534 students from around 120 countries. Among these, 33.3% of candidates are female, and 37% are international students. The university also forms alliances with various prestigious international universities, such as:

According to the World University Ranking by Time Higher Education,  ETH Zurich stood in the 15th position in 2022. In the same ranking system, the university stood at number 18th in its World Reputation Rankings 2021. ETH Zurich also received the top ten QS rankings in 15 different disciplines in 2020 and took sixth place in the world ranking.

ETH Zurich acceptance rate (General)

Despite having an impressive number of applications per degree and Master’s program each year, ETH Zurich maintains a high prerequisite for admission. Although the university has increased the number of new students it accepts, the ratio of new foreign students still remains small. There were just 11.7% new acceptances in 2016, only 0.8% more than the previous year.

Currently, the ETH Zurich acceptance rate for international students remains about 35% of the total students. In an attempt to attract more global talents, the university has opened its arms with various Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral level programs. Due to this, since 2007, there has been an 83% increase in the overall student number.

To handle this increased ETH Zurich acceptance rate, there are 500 professors and an additional 260 senior scientists collaborating together. Overall, the university has 6,612 scientific and 3,106 technical and administrative staff.

Undergraduate acceptance rate

Among the 24,500 students of ETH Zurich, about 8,600 students enrolled in various programs in 2021. Among these, ETH accepted 3,724 students under its Bachelor’s degree programs.
