NSERC is providing $25,000 to a professor of electrical engineering at Lakehead Thunder Bay to advance the science of quantum computing. Thanks to funding from an Alliance International Catalyst Quantum Grant given by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, Dr. Ehsan Atoofian, Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering, will collaborate with academics from Germany's Clausthal University of Technology and Finland's Aalto University for a year. Quantum physics is the foundation of quantum computing. The 1946-founded Lakehead Technical Institute (LTI) gave rise to Lakehead University.
In 1956, Lakehead changed its name from LTI to Lakehead College of Arts, Science, and Technology.
Following the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario's 1965 Royal Assent of the Lakehead University Act, Lakehead University was founded.

Lakehead University's Admission
For international applicants, a minimum of 75%, or 3.0 on a 4-point Canadian scale, is required, along with an approved university degree that is equal to a four-year degree from Lakehead University. Since admission to Lakehead programs is competitive, it is recommended that all international students apply as soon as possible.
English Language Requirements:
The Duolingo English Test (DET) will be accepted temporarily by the Faculty of Graduate Studies in place of the IELTS and TOEFL exams, which have been canceled for months in many affected areas. Since the DET is easy to arrange without long testing wait times, delivers results quickly, and is reliable and flexible enough for students to access even when they are socially isolated, it is now widely recognized throughout Canadian universities.
