Location

UC Berkeley is located in Berkeley, California, USA. It is approximately a 20-minute drive away from San Francisco. History

UC Berkeley was established in 1868 under the state’s first land-grant university. The founder of the College of California, Henry Durant, purchased the current Berkeley campus in 1866. The University of California was established on March 23, 1868, after Governor Henry H. Haight signed the Dwinelle Bill also known as the Organic Act.
