What is NIMCET

There are 31 NITs across India that train undergraduate candidates in different branches of engineering and technology. Of these, 9 offer the Master of Computer Applications (MCA) program. The NIMCET exam is your first step to getting admission into these institutions to pursue an MCA. This test assesses your ability to enroll in one of these leading institutions.

NIMCET Eligibility Criteria

As of 2023, the NIMCET entrance exam followed the below eligibility criteria:

  • You must have completed a 3-year UG program with Statistics or Mathematics as one of the subjects from a recognized university, or you must have a BE or BTech degree from a recognized institution. Open university students are also eligible, provided your program is approved by UGC or AICTE and the Distance Education Council (DEC) of the Government of India.
  • If you are a general category candidate, at least a 6.5 CGPA is a must out of a 10-point scale or 60% aggregate marks.
  • If you are an SC/ST/PwD category candidate, at least a 6.0 CGPA is a must out of a 10-point scale or 55% aggregate marks.
  • You can apply for NIMCET if you are appearing for your UG final examination. 

Note: If the CGPA is on any other scale other than a 10-point scale, its  10-point scale equivalent will be calculated based on a unitary method. You cannot convert your scored marks from percentage to CGPA or otherwise. 

NIMCET Registration 

Follow the steps explained below for NIMCET 2024 registration. 

  1. Visit the official NIMCET website to register yourself as a NIMCET candidate. 
  2. You may need the following documents to complete the registration process:
    1. Self-attested and scanned mark sheets and certificates (PDF - document size guide must be followed).
    2. A soft copy of your recent passport-size photograph (follow the mentioned size).
    3. A soft copy of your signature (follow the mentioned ink color and size).
    4. A valid identity proof (PDF - follow the size guide) can be your PAN, Aadhaar, Voter Card, or driver's license.
  3. Fill in all the mandatory fields as marked.
  4. You will be redirected to the payment gateway to pay the application fee. OPEN/OPEN-EWS/OBC category candidates need to pay Rs. 2,500/- and SC/ST/PwD category candidates need to pay INR 1,250.
  5. After successful payment, the page will ask you to “Final Submit” the application. Once you press the button,  you will see a page where the PDF version of your application will be ready to download. This is your final application version with a unique registration number.

NIMCET Preparation Tips

To prepare for the NIMCET exam paper, follow the below guidelines:

  • Prepare using previous years’ question papers.
  • Keep practicing and track your timing.
  • Thoroughly understand the exam pattern.
  • Prepare a personalized routine for yourself and stick to that.
  • The more you can revise, the better you will prepare. 

NIMCET Admit Card 

The admit cards for NIMCAT 2024 will be made available on the official website a few days before the exam. 

NIMCET Result 

The tentative timeline for the NIMCET 2024 result is in June. You will need to log in to the official website to check and download your results. 

You will only be able to see your rank with this scorecard. NIMCET does not send any separate rank statements.

NIMCET Cut-Offs 

The cut-off marks of the NIMCET exam are detailed below:

  • Your marks obtained in all the subjects will be combined for the final result. 
  • The maximum mark is 1000.
  • The ranking of candidates will be decided by the total marks obtained.

The cut-off for each institution may vary. You’ll need to check their respective websites for a better idea.

NIMCET Admission Process 

After the final result of the NIMCET entrance exam, you need to fill out another application for the counseling process of institutions. You can apply for this counseling only if you are qualified in the NIMCET exam. You can choose your preferred institution for the counseling process. 

The admission to the MCA program will depend on your acquired rank and your selected institute.

Is there negative marking in NIMCET?

Yes, for each wrong answer, 25% will be deducted from your marks. 

What is the exam paper pattern of NIMCET?

Will my documents be scrutinized before the NIMCET entrance exam?

NIMCET does not perform any physical scrutiny of your documents. If any discrepancies are found later, your application will be canceled and debarred from the admission process.
