The personal statement should mention the candidate’s reasons for interest in the course and what excites him/her about the same along with academic interests, and how they have explored the same outside school.

Candidates should tell the institution why they wish to pursue this course along with things that inspired their interest in the same, including relevant extracurricular activities, books, voluntary/professional experience, and courses/lectures attended.

They should also mention the skills they have gained, with proof of the same. Other aspects to mention include work experience and future goals along with hobbies, passions and how they helped candidates build qualities and skills that make them strong candidates for the institution.

Your engineering statement of purpose should have this format: 

  • First paragraph- Introduction about the course you are applying for and yourself, while providing your background and future goals. 
  • Second paragraph- Academic and professional background. 
  • Third paragraph- Academic achievements, strengths and weaknesses, recognition, projects, industrial/research exposure, and so on.  
  • Fourth paragraph- Why you wish to pursue this course, your future goals and expectations from the program.
