Q. Is a 7-year gap accepted in Canada?

Canadian universities accept international students with study gaps. Yes! Most Canadian colleges and universities accept study gaps if they are justified by valid reasons and backed up by proper documentation. After a study gap of 7 years, you can apply for a Canadian study visa.

Many international students take a year break to work for some years before pursuing their degree. Some Canadian universities allow you to take a longer gap if you have a proper valid reason.

Students who wish to study in Canada must review the admission requirements, explain their study gap, and explain how they have utilized their time productively. Student applications will be strengthened when they document their study gaps, and they will be more likely to be accepted into their desired academic program in Canada.

Depending on the degree, Canada allows different lengths of study gaps. An increasing number of international students are studying in Canada during a gap year. For Diploma programs, some Canadian Universities will enable a study gap of two years. For undergraduate degrees, a two-year study gap is accepted at some universities.

Some universities accept 5 years of a gap for postgraduate programs. Some Canadian universities are accepting admissions with a seven-year study gap.

Students with more than the permitted study gaps (in certain exceptional circumstances) may also be admitted to some Canadian universities and colleges. Institutions expect valid reasons for allowing students with more gap years to enter. Consequently, a 7-year study gap is unlikely to determine acceptance or rejection at Canadian universities.

In their application materials, applicants should highlight their qualifications and aspirations while meeting the academic requirements of their programs.

You can contact each university's admissions office for detailed information regarding their admission process and criteria.
