Q. What is L 1B status?

L-1B status is a specific type of classification in the United States nonimmigrant visa system, whose vehicles are intracompany transferees with specialized knowledge. 

This is a visa category allowing multinational firms to send employees with technical know-how or skills from their overseas branches to the U.S. for a temporary stay of however long they may need it, up to five years in total.

In order to meet professional standards for L-1B status, an individual must satisfy certain criteria. 

Second, the employee must have been employed for a minimum of one continuous year with this foreign company within the last three years.

Generally, L-1B status is granted on an interim basis for up to three years only. After that time, it may be extended once or twice according to the employee's wishes. 

It falls within one of those categories set forth in regulations: manager, executive (meaning someone very capable), or specialized worker. The length of stay depends on the company's specific role and the specialty of each person.
