History of York University

York University was established in 1959 as a non-denominational institution by the York University Act. The first class commenced in the year 1960, September. The first class started in Falconer Hall on the University of Toronto campus with a total of 76 students. In the fall of 1961, York University moved back to its prime campus, Glendon College, and began to focus on arts and part-time studies. York University became independent in 1965 after the initial period of affiliation with Toronto University. In 1965, the university opened a second campus, the Keele Campus, in North York, in the Jane and Finch community. 

The first Canadian undergraduate program in dance opened at York University in 1970. Currently, the university is home to 55,700 students.

Required Examination for York University
