History of Campbellsville University
During a conference held at Salem Baptist Church in Campbellsville, Kentucky in 1900, the members of the Russell Creek Baptist Association established a committee to seek funding for the construction of a school.
With steady construction, the facility was finished and used for classes in 1907 as the Russell Creek Academy. The academy kept growing. The faculty was increased, new departments were added, and the curriculum was improved.
In 1924, Russell Creek Academy changed its name to Campbellsville College.
Campbellsville was one of the first schools in the newly formed Kentucky Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools to be recognized in 1933.
The Southern Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges granted the College junior college accreditation in 1949.
At the General Association of Baptists in Kentucky meeting in October 1957 in Harlan, Kentucky, the Board of Trustees of Campbellsville College was given permission to carry out their request to make Campbellsville College a four-year college.
