Academics

The Jacksonville State University's admission process is live three times a year—at the beginning of the spring, summer, and fall semesters. Students must fill out an electronic application form to seek admission to Jacksonville State University. Except for those returning or applying for dual enrollment at JSU, first-time applicants must pay a $35 application fee.

Jacksonville State University's general admission requirements are as follows:

  • The minimum GPA standards for high school range from 2.00 to 4.00
  • Average ACT Composite score of 20 or above, or an SAT score of 1030
  • More than 24 credits are necessary for transfer students. If not available, the institution will take your school and college work into account. Additionally, you need to have a JSU-calculated cumulative GPA of at least 2.00
  • A 3.0 high school GPA and a composite ACT score of 26 are the minimal prerequisites for early admission
  • A minimum grade point average of 2.00/4.00 (on a US scale) is needed for international applicants. Additionally, the applicant must submit an IELTS score of at least 5.5 to demonstrate their ability in the English language

Jacksonville State University's acceptance rate is 55%. This means that 55 applications out of every 100 get admission into the institution.

Courses

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) has granted Jacksonville State University accreditation to grant bachelor's, master's, education specialist, and doctorate degrees.

Students can choose from a variety of courses at the university. The entire catalog lists the prerequisites for every course and is available on the university website.

The following are the six departments into which the courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels are divided:

  • Science and Mathematics
  • Social and Behavioral Sciences

Thirty-six semester hours of credits are required for most degrees per year, which must be from 300-level or higher courses. Irrespective of what category the candidates were admitted under or what credits they may have transferred, they must earn credit at Jacksonville State University. These include at least 12 hours of advanced work in their primary subject or teaching field area and 6 hours of advanced work in their minor subject per semester.

The following is the college academic schedule for Fall 2022:

  • August 24: Classes begin
  • August 30: Last day to drop a class and receive refunds
  • October 12: Final examinations
  • December 16: Semester ends/ Degree conferral

This highlights the diverse learning environment at the university. 

Students can participate in various student organizations, fraternities, and sororities, such as:
