What is PMT? The full form of PMT is the Pre-Medical Test.

An annual medical entrance exam was held in India under the name All India Pre-Medical Test/Pre-Dental Entrance Test. The National Testing Agency's NEET-UG has now taken the place of the exam that was administered by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

The exam was a prerequisite for enrollment in the MBBS and BDS programs at a number of national medical institutes.

Candidates who passed this exam were eligible for 15% of all seats at medical and dental institutes run by the Union of India, state governments, municipal or other local authorities in India, with the exception of the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Jammu & Kashmir.

Exam Pattern of PMT Test

2010 saw a modification to the AIPMT pattern. The test was replaced with the AIPMT Prelims and Mains, a two-tiered or two-stage test, where the AIPMT Prelims served as an objective exam and the AIPMT Mains as a subjective exam. Candidates who passed the AIPMT Prelims exam might take the AIPMT Mains exam. Ultimately, candidates who performed well on the AIPMT Mains were chosen for admission solely on the basis of their merit. Admission was based on rank.

Once more, the structure shifted in 2013 when the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) took the place of the two-tier test. All MBBS and BDS seats in all the colleges covered by the previous exam were to be admitted through this nationwide test.

The exam was renamed AIPMT in 2014 and was only offered for 15% of seats, similar to the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET-UG). For further information, view the current exam pattern below.

Current pattern: The exam was administered in one sitting, generally on the first Sunday in May. Currently, AIPMT has been cancelled because of the neet test. One paper with 180 objective-style questions covering Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany & Zoology) comprised the exam; 45 questions were assigned to each subject. The exam lasted for three hours.
